چکیده
Abstract This study examines coupled relationships among clouds, atmospheric circulation, and sea ice in Antarctic winter. We find that the wave-3 pattern dominates leading covariability mode cloud, ice. Both horizontal transport vertical motion contribute to cloud formation, resulting maximum anomalies spatially between meridional wind pressure system. The radiative effect of clouds related can generate up 12 cm thick one month Amundsen Sea. It also strengthens are directly induced by low-level circulation anomalies. In addition, forcing lower troposphere is suppressed dynamic thermodynamic effects These discoveries provide a better understanding Antarctica’s interactive processes, offer physical evidence for climate model validations.

Atmospheric circulation patterns which promote winter Arctic sea ice decline
The impact of winter atmospheric blocking over the Ural Mountains region (UB) coincident with different phases of the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) on the sea ice variability over the Barents and Kara Seas (BKS) in winter is investigated. It is found that the UB in conjunction with the positive phase of the NAO (NAOþ) leads to the strongest sea ice decline. During this phase composites and t...
متن کاملIncreasing Antarctic Sea Ice under Warming Atmospheric and Oceanic Conditions
Estimates of sea ice extent based on satellite observations show an increasing Antarctic sea ice cover from 1979 to 2004 even though in situ observations show a prevailing warming trend in both the atmosphere and the ocean. This riddle is explored here using a global multicategory thickness and enthalpy distribution sea ice model coupled to an ocean model. Forced by the NCEP–NCAR reanalysis dat...
متن کاملDecadal Variability in Coupled Sea-Ice–Thermohaline Circulation Systems*
An interdecadal oscillation in a coupled ocean–ice system was identified in a previous study. This paper extends that study to further examine the stability of the oscillation and the sensitivity of its frequency to various parameters and forcing fields. Three models are used: (i) an analytical box model; (ii) a two-dimensional model for the ocean thermohaline circulation (THC) coupled to a the...
متن کاملAn Eddy-Resolving Labrador Sea Modeling Studied by a Coupled Sea Ice-Ocean Circulation Model
Qualitative comparison between observed and simulated fields over the Labrador Sea is performed. The model simulates the observed mean horizontal circulations of the surface cyclonic subpolar gyre and the mid-depth (~ 700 m) cyclonic recirculations. The distribution of the eddy kinetic energy shows good agreement with the observed evidence over the surface in annual average. The model captures ...
